Reflex Nutrition Assessment (RNA), also called Muscle Response Testing (MRT), is mostly practiced by naturopaths or other non-diagnosing holistic health practitioners. MRT works with the reflex arcs within the nervous system. The human body has hundreds of miles of nerves which can conduct electromagnetic energy. Nerves discharge due to an influx of positively charged Sodium ions that creates an electrical charge. Every part of the human body is always directly and indirectly connected to every other part of the body. A motor neuron in the spinal cord intakes about 15,000 synaptic ends, and a brain neuron intakes at least 100,000 synaptic endings. RNA is based on the theory that neuron firings triggered by local current flow or changes in electromagnetic energy. In Applied Kinesiology, the action of provoking a change in muscle strength after touching a reflex point is called “therapy localization.” If the change is weakness, it indicates a potential for support needed in that area. The practitioner will then have the client hold balancers which can be herbs, essential oils, or homeopathics and retest to find a possible solution that makes that point strong, or balanced.
To test a reflex, the practitioner can use the client’s arm, or any other muscle, as a circuit indicator. When energy flows freely, there should be “strong” reflex and the tester will not be able to push the client’s arm down. If the arm muscle is suddenly weak and the tester can push the arm down, that indicates the location of a possible active point. This indicates the nerve energy has been disrupted and may need support. Using RNA, along with other information gathering tools and techniques like client intake form, interview, pH testing, iridology, TCM principles of reading the face, tongue, and fingernails, and other forms of biofeedback, I can develop a holistic guide for you to help you balance what your body needs and maintain good healthy stewardship to your body.
Some reflex points that are tested are: digestive, endocrine, cardiovascular, yeast, parasites, and heavy metals. Some methods of MRT include O-ring testing, tip testing (sway testing), and meridian testing with or without a surrogate.
