How Can Lavender Essential Oil Help Alleviate Spring Allergy Symptoms?

Allergy season is upon us! Spring is in the air! Lavender essential oil (EO) can help with seasonal allergy symptoms of sneezing, itching, and congestion by calming the body’s responses. Lavender EO has many anti-inflammatory properties and can reduce swelling and discomfort. Additionally, the soothing aroma of lavender can promote relaxation and improve the quality of sleep which is beneficial for those experiencing upper respiratory discomfort from allergens.

To use lavender oils for allergies symptoms, add a few drops into a diffuser for your living space or dilute it in a 2% dilution in a carrier oil (5-6 drops of EO in 1 ounce carrier oil like jojoba oil) and apply it to the bottoms of your feet for a more targeted effect.

Some other essential oils (EO’s) blends can help with seasonal allergies as well. Certain EO’s have immune boosting properties and can help soothe symptoms of congestion, sneezing and itchy eyes. Some of the best EO’s that help seasonal allergy symptoms are peppermint, lavender, lemon, tea tree, and eucalyptus. These oils support the immune system, reduce inflammation, and clear airways. Just add a few drops of your designated EO’s to your diffuser filled with distilled water and let the aromas disperse throughout your room.

Essential oils can be beneficial to adults but, you’ll need to use caution around children and pets because some may not be safe to use around kids and animals. Never apply an essential oil undiluted to your skin as you can become sensitized to it. Also, never apply an EO to any child younger than 2 years old. A better choice is using a hydrosol around the littles!!
